それからしばらくして、お姫さまが王様や姉のお姫さまたちと食事をしていると、ぺたりぺたりと大理石の階段を上ってくる者がありました。足音は一番上まで上がりきると、とんとんと戶を叩きながら言いました。
「お姫さま、一番下のお姫さま。約束をお忘れですか？早くここを開けて下さい。
」それを聞いたお姫さまは真っ青になって、胸は不安でどきどきと早く拍ち始めます。「どうしたね姫。
外にいるのは誰だい？恐ろしい大男でもやって來てお前をさらって行こうとでもいうのかね。」王様が笑って訊ねるとお姫さまは慌てて、泉に金の鞠を落としてしまいカエルに拾ってもらった事を話ました。

」お姫さまがぐずぐずとしていると、王様がまたそうしてあげなさいとたしなめます。仕方なくお姫さまがカエルを食卓の上に乗せると、「二人で一緒に食べられるように、そのお皿をもっとこちらへ寄せて下さい。
」カエルは図々しく言いました。お姫さまは嫌で嫌で仕方ありませんでしたが、カエルはとても美味しそうに皿の上のごちそうを食べます。
そうして食べるだけ食べると、「ああお腹がいっぱいになってくだびれました。さあ私を貴女の寢室に連れて行って、二人で眠れるように絹のベットを整えて下さい。
」と言うものですから、お姫さまはとうとう泣き出してしまいました。けれども王様は怒って言いました。
「困っている時に助けてくれた者に、后になって知らん顏をするのはいけない事だ。」お姫さまは嫌々二本の指でカエルを摘むと、寢室へ連れて行って部屋の隅に置きました。
それから一人でベットに橫になると、またもやカエルが傍へ寄って來て言います。「私も貴女のようにゆっくりくつろいで眠りたいです。
