*'s WhyJimmy started painting when he was three years old, and when he was five, he was already very good at it. He painted many beautiful and interesting pictures, and people paid a lot of money for them. They said, "This boy's going to be famous when he's little older, and then we're going to sell these pictures for a lot more money." Jimmy's pictures were different from other people's because he never painted on all of the paper. He painted on half of it, and the other half was always empty."That's very clever," everyone said, "Nobody else does that!"One day somebody bought one of Jimmy's pictures and then said to him, "Please tell me this, Jimmy. Why do you paint on the bottom half of your pictures, but not on the top half""Because I'm small," Jimmy said, "and my burshes don't reach very high."
2One day a little girl came running into her house yelling, "Mommy, I got five dollars!" 2.
Nowadays, more and more young people are becoming too proud and over-confident. They think they can do everything. So they simply ignore their old parents, and believe that their parents' experienced thoughts are out of date. Actually I used to be one of them, but after hearing a story told by my father, I changed my mind completely. Now I would like to share it with all of you. Once, there's a young man who look down on the old. He always thought that the old were just nuisances in your busy life, a useless life that was going to wither. He also did this to his father. One day, the father and the son happened to meet each other in the grove. The son suggested that they should take a walk * they walked, a beautiful garden came into their sight. The son pointed to one of the prettiest flower and said, 'we young people are like this fragrant flower, so healthy, so vigorous, and full of spirit. What about you oldsters? Just like the falling leaves from a dying tree.' Hearing this, the father smiled butsaid nothing. They continued the walking in * they passed a grocery, the father stopped and went in, he bought a walnut and show it to his son, slow and gracious, he said, 'we old are like this walnut. We've experienced many hard events in * we built up such a firm shell, and at the same time we also built up a pure inner world. Every fruit is so full-grown.' 'but every fruit wasborn by flower.' Refuted the son. 'yes, but not every flower can bear fruit….' From the on, I always keep this story in my mind. It has taught me a lot. We should try to be a flower that can bear * alsohave to know that our parents aren't nuisances, useless lives or falling leaves but are experienced walnuts, masterpiece of nature. They are the ones we should appreciate forever.
It is true that “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” A person can learn a lot and retain what he learns through experience. In my opinion, life's valuable lessons are learned from experience and so the knowledge gained from experience is more important.
Books are a great source of information. A person in his lifetime cannot experience everything, but by reading a book on a particular subject he can gain knowledge over that subject in less time. There are books available on any subject that one needs. However, experience seems more important to me.
Suppose a person living in the United States wants to learn about India. He has two options: he could visit India and learn about the people and places there or he could just pick up a book about the India and read it. The first option will be expensive and time consuming, but at the same time it gives one first hand information and a sense of satisfaction while the second option is less expensive and save time.
A person can gain knowledge and learn many valuable lessons through his/her own practical experiences and also the experiences of others. The knowledge learnt from experience is very likely to be retained in our memory for a long period of time. The conclusions that we draw from what we learn would be from our practical experience instead of accepting the conclusion drawn in the book by the author.
So in my opinion, knowledge can be gained both by reading books and by experience but the knowledge gained through experience more important.
How a Colt Crossed the River One day, a colt took a bag of wheat to the mill. As he was running with the bag on his back, he came to a small river. The colt could not decide whether he could cross it. Looking around, he saw a cow grazing nearby. He asked, “Aunt Cow, could you tell me if I can cross the river?” The cow told him that he could and that the river was not very deep, just knee high. The colt was crossing the river when a squirrel jumped down fron a tree and stopped him. The squirrel shouted, “Colt, stop! You'll drown! One of my friends drowned just yesterday in the river.” Not knowing what to do, the colt went home to consult his mum. He told his mum his experience on the way. His mother said, “My child, don't always listen to others. You'd better go and try yourself. Then you'll know what to do.” Later, at the river, the squirrel stopped the colt again. “Little horse, it's too dangerous!” “No, I want to try myself,” answered the colt. Then he crossed the river carefully. You see, real knowledge comes from practice.
Peter was a little boy. His parents were very busy with their work, so he was usually very lonely. One day, Peter sat in the garden playing alone, and he really wished that he could have a friend to play with. Suddenly, Peter saw a purple-winged fairy sitting on a rose. " " Hi! I am Peter. Who are you? " asked Peter. " I am a fairy named Sara," said the fairy. " Hi! Sara, would you like to be my friend and play with me? " asked Peter. "Yes, I'd love to." Sara replied. Sara then sat on Peter's knee and talked happily about her fairyland. " There are many beautiful flowers in my homeland. I like to ride on the wind and play with the sky-horses," said Sara. " Fantastic!" said Peter. They became good friends. However, Sara needed to go home, so Peter was sad. "Don't be sad, Peter, I'll pray for your happiness. And I'll come and visit you someday." said Sara. " I'll miss you, Sara." said Peter. Peter was glad that he had a fairy friend now.

A man was going to the house of some rich person. As he went along the road, he saw a box of good apples at the side of the road. He said, "I do not want to eat those apples; for the rich man will give me much food; he will give me very nice food to eat." Then he took the apples and threw them away into the dust.
He went on and came to a river. The river had become very big; so he could not go over it. He waited for some time; then he said, "I cannot go to the rich man's house today, for I cannot get over the river."
He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began to want food. He came to the apples, and he was glad to take them out of the dust and eat them.
Do not throw good things away; you may be glad to have them at some other time.
