系動詞及其搭配使用。
系動詞大致可分為三類： 1）表示具有某種性質、特征或處于某種狀態的系動詞，如：be,appear,seem,look, taste,sound,feel,smell等。例如： The story of his life sounds interesting。
他的生平聽起來很有趣。 The plan looks good on paper,but will it work？ 這個計劃從紙面上看不錯，但能行得通嗎？ The house appeared deserted。
那所房子看來無人居住2）表示狀態變化的系動詞，如：become, come,fall,get,go,grow,turn,run,turn out等。例如： Leaves turn yellow in the autumn。
樹葉在秋天變黃。 The post of headmaster fell/became vacant。
校長的位子空了下來。 The sound of the music grew faint as the band marched away。
音樂聲隨著樂隊走遠而漸漸減弱。 3）表示某種持續狀態的系動詞，如： keep,remain,stay,rest,lie,stand等。
例如： Few of the houses there remained standing after the earthquake。 地震過后，那里沒有幾所房子沒有倒塌。
The book lay open on the table。 那本書攤開放在桌子上。
The weather has stayed warm all week。 天氣整個星期都很暖和。
