配送中心的選址直接影響配送中心各項活動的成本，同時也關系到配送中心的正常運作和發展，因此，配送中心的選址和布局必須在充分調查分析的基礎上綜合考慮自身經營的特點、商品特性及交通狀況等因素，在詳細分析現狀及預測的基礎上對配送中心進行選址。配送中心的選址可參照圖9-6所示的程序進行。
1.外部條件論證
(1)交通運輸條件。配送中心地址選擇應靠近交通運輸樞紐，以保證配送服務的及時性、準確性。
(2)用地條件。配送中心建設須占用大量的土地資源，土地的來源、地價、土地的利用程度等要充分考慮并落實。
(3)顧客分布情況。準確掌握配送中心現有服務對象的分布情況以及未來一段時間內的發展變化情況，因為顧客分布狀況的改變、配送商品數量的改變及顧客對配送服務要求的改變都會對配送中心的經營和管理產生影響。
(4)政策法規條件。掌握政府對配送中心建設的法律法規要求，那些地區不允許建設配送中心、那些地區政府有優惠政策等。
(5)附屬設施條件。配送中心周圍的服務設施也是考慮的因素之一，如外部信息網絡技術條件，水電及通信等輔助設施，北方地區的供暖保溫設施等。
(6)其他。要考慮不同類別的配送中心對選址的需要的不同的。如有些配送中心所保管的商品有保溫設施、冷凍設施、危險品設施等對選址都有特殊要求
