above，over都指“在……上方”，而below，under都表示“在……下方”，但在具體用法上有區別，而很多同學對這幾個詞很難區分。
above指“在……上方”，不一定垂直，與below相對。
below表示位置低于所提及的事物。
例如：There is a clock above the window．
窗上面有一個鐘。（這個鐘的位置高于窗戶，但不是垂直。）
Please write your name below the line．
請在橫線下面寫上你的名字。（不是在正下方）
而over指“垂直在上”，與under相對。
under表示“在……正下方”。
例如：There is a bridge over the river．
河的正上面有一條橋。

但是below 就比較的方位化了，比如信封的下面，圖紙的下面等。

一、兩者都可表示“低于”，under 主要表示垂直在下的正下方，而 below則不一定表示正下方(即可以是正下方或非正下方)。
舉例：
1、faint grew the steps of the prison guard in the corridor and so he took out his bookagain from under the pillow .
獄監的腳步聲在走廊里漸漸消失，他又從枕頭下面取出了書。

二、表示職位、級別等關系時，用 under 表直接關系，用 below 表非直接關系。
1、 Mr A is under Mr B.
A 先生是 B 先生的部下。
2、Mr A is below Mr B.
A 先生比 B 先生職位低。
