“輕輕的我走了,正如我輕輕的來,我輕輕的招手,作別西天的云彩。”這節詩可用幾句話來概括:舒緩的節奏,輕盈的動作,纏綿的情意,同時又懷著淡淡的哀愁。
最后的“西天的云彩”,為后面的描寫布下了一筆絢麗的色彩,整個景色都是在夕陽映照下的景物。所以這節詩為整首詩定下了一個基調。

這節詩運用了虛實結合的手法,“實”是景物的描寫,“虛”是象征手法的運用。一潭水很清澈,霞光倒映下來,“不是清泉,是天上虹”,一片紅光,是實寫。
但是,潭水上漂了很多的水藻,擋住了一部分霞光,零零碎碎的,有的紅,有的綠,好像柔水一般,非常形象。這個"揉"寫的很好,同時也是自己夢想的破滅。
聞一多先生紀念他的長女夭折時寫了一首詩,曾用了一個比喻:“像夏天里的一個夢,像夢里的一聲鐘。”說明夢境是美好的,鐘聲是悠揚的,然而是短暫的,所以彩虹似的夢似美麗而短暫的。
1927年徐志摩的夢想破滅了,又與陸小曼不和,很消沉。第五節,“尋夢?撐一支長篙,向青草更青處慢溯,滿載一船星輝,在星輝斑斕里放歌。”
這節詩是徐志摩對往昔生活的回憶、留戀。他在康橋生活了兩年。
他那時有自己的理想,生活是充實的,對明天懷著希望。所以,他用“一船星輝”來比喻那時的生活,帶有象征的意味。
