“不管怎樣，我老是在想象，有那么一群小孩子。
在一大塊麥田里做游戲。
幾千幾萬個小孩子，附近沒有一個人——沒有一個大人，我是說——除了我。
我呢，就站在那混帳的懸崖邊。
我的職務是在那兒守望，要是有哪個孩子往懸崖邊奔來，我就把他捉住。
我是說孩子們都在狂奔，也不知道自己是在往哪兒跑，我得從什么地方出來，把他們捉住。
我整天就干這樣的事。
我只相當個麥田里的守望者。
我知道這有點異想天開，可我真正喜歡干的就是這個。
Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around--nobody big, I mean--except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff--I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be.
